CPAP filters are the tiny components of your CPAP machine that are often overlooked. However, they play a large role in the performance of your machine so it is essential that you change them frequently.
It is very important that you regularly change your CPAP filters to ensure that your machine runs to its optimum standard, as well as filtering the air that you breathe.
CPAP filters need to be replaced regularly, as instructed to in your CPAP machine user manual. Regular filter changes are essential if you want to ensure that your machine performs well, without becoming unnecessarily damaged. If your machine becomes damaged because you haven’t regularly changed the filters, then you might be responsible for repair or replacement charges.
Some manufacturers will deem the CPAP user responsible for damage that was self-inflicted by not regularly changing the filters. This means that if you do not keep up with the simple maintenance of your machine, you could be paying the repair costs, or for a replacement machine.
The critical role filters play in your CPAP machines performance!
Filters need to be changed regularly because not only do they protect your machine, but they also protect your respiratory system. Filters ensure that the air you breathe in is safe, emitting no harmful chemicals or small debris particles that could potentially cause damage to your lungs.
Not only for the sake of your health, but also for the sake of your machines longevity. If filters get left unchanged for months past there expiry date, then your machine may get clogged up and cause irreparable damage.
How often should CPAP filters be changed?
The exact time scale of when you should change your CPAP filters varies depending on what machine you have, and when necessary to do so. Typically, the coarse filters should be washed weekly or every fortnight, and replaced every 3-6 months depending on the machine. If the filter is starting to fall apart when washing it, or if it is still discoloured after cleaning, then it is recommended that you replace the filters immediately. The fine filters generally should be replaced once a month, or sooner if significantly discoloured.
